[/one_fourth][three_fourth_last][box]CSIC, CIBER and the University of Barcelona have found a family of derivatives heterocyclic compounds which act as activators of protein kinase AMPK. This enzyme regulates the energy state of the cell, so these compounds may be useful for the treatment of metabolic, cardiovascular disease and cancer, among others.[/box]
