[/one_fourth][three_fourth_last][box]CSIC, UMH and ULL have synthesized and studied the biological activity of a family of small molecules able to modulate the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR), increasing notably the answer of the receptor in the presence of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Therefore, these compounds that behave as positive allosteric modulators are, therefore, potentially useful for the treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases as well as schizophrenia and pain.[/box]
