Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid (1986). He joined the Medicinal Chemistry Institute in 1989, working in the design and synthesis of new drugs. His research interest is focused in the application of computational chemistry to drug design (neural network, theoretical calculation of molecular properties, QSAR, molecular modeling) in a broad range of therapeutic areas, cardiovascular (diuretics, antihypertensive, and antithrombotic agents), inflammatory diseases (bronchodilators) and in the CNS. During these years he has been involved in many drug discovery projects and has managed several projects in different therapeutic areas including SNC and neglected diseases. He has supervised four PhD theses and he is the author or co-author of more than sixty publications and ten patents. Currently, he is working in drug discovery against Chagas disease and the design and development of new cannabinoids for application in neurodegenerative disorders.
